I was a teenager in the mid 70's and remember very well the platfom shoes craze.
When it was revived in the last few years I wanted to scream at all the people wearing them "Nooooooo! We took that fashion hit so you wouldn't have toooooo!!!"
I was reminded of John "Frenchy" Fuqua's famous shoes
(from wikipedia)
Fuqua nicknamed himself "The French Count". He is remembered for being one of the flashiest dressers in the NFL, and would occasionally appear in public wearing platform shoes having see-through heels that contained water and a live tropical fish selected from his aquarium to match the color of the day's outfit.
Oh, man, I hoped there was a Frenchy-Flagg connection, especially with his aquarium shoes. But I couldn't find anything. I'm assuming the aquarium shoes were a custom job.
there are a lot of amusing Frenchy things from back in the day.
I will probably get the detail wrong on this, but in one of the team "player bio" listings where players would answer a question form to be distributed to press or something,
Frenchy's response to "favorite color?" was "plaid".
I have seen him referred to as "sartorially challenged", but I'm sure that's just some old white dude who was not running Flagg talking.
FWIW, Frenchy was the "target" of Bradshaw's pass that either caromed off of him or Jack Tatum and was more famously grabbed by Franco Harris in "the Immaculate Reception"

Haha! Every generation has to make its own mistakes.
