I have a NuTone system in the house I just bought! It was built in 1969 and has a lot of outdated "luxuries." It's been painted over and obviously doesn't work but there's a loose panel in the basement hooking it all together. It's on the list of items to fix but it requires a lot of wall repair in various formats. We probably need an electrician to rip all the wiring out as well. I wish there was something practical to creatively reuse it though.

My childhood friend had one of these!! I considered anyone who had stairs in their home to be living in the lap of luxury, and she had stairs, as well as this home intercom system and even a sauna room. Her dad worked for a home builder company, so maybe that had something to do with it lol. Anyway, I thought the home intercom was SO incredible. I don't think it actually worked very well though...

We had one of these in the second house I lived in! (There were a lot of other odd features too… We wondered if it was a safe house at one point.) They really weren’t all that useful, but there was a while when I was in junior high when my dad would pump easy listening or classical music through them to help us get to sleep. I have a weird soft spot now for some really old school easy listening.

My parents moved into a bigger house in 1972 that had been built in 1958. We were absolutely jazzed about the intercom because the radio feature still works so we could play music lately in different rooms which is kind of fun while doing chores, other than vacuuming cause then you couldn't hear the radio anymore. And for a while in the summer when our friends would come to play, mom will use it get our attention for lunch or let somebody know that was time for them to go home. I know we were pretty demoralized from the whole system starting to get scratchy and dad didn't really want to have it worked on and repaired. We were pretty bummed.

A couple of houses I grew up in (we moved every several years due to my dad being transferred) had them, but they never seemed to be functioning anymore. My dad probably would have ripped them out, but sadly, they were rentals.
